Tips For Growing Long Healthy Hair

One of the most common questions I get in my DMs is about my hair care routine, what products I use and how I style it. So, today I want to share some tips with you all for growing healthy hair and outline some of my very favorite products that I’ve been using over the years! Obviously I am not a hairstylist (lol) so these are just tricks and products that have worked for me! Let’s get into it…

Minimize How Often You Wash Your Hair

This is a super important one!! Overwashing your hair can strip it of natural oils and ultimately cause your hair to be dry and break. I have gotten to a place where I wash my hair about every 5 days and I have seen such an improvement in the overall health of my hair by doing this. Obviously your hair will still get oily and dirty as the week goes on (especially if you are working out frequently), so I use dry shampoo in between my hair wash days to help keep that clean and fresh look. Then usually on those 4th and 5th days of no wash I will wear my hair in a slicked back bun or a hat to hide my dirty hair. I have tried out alotttt of dry shampoos and some definitely work better than others, but I have linked some of my favorites below.

Shampoo and Conditioner

It’s so important to use a good shampoo and conditioner to be sure you are putting quality ingredients on your hair. Everyone’s hair is different, so I recommend researching what the best options are for your own hair needs, whether that be moisturizing, detoxing, anti-frizz, etc. My favorite shampoo and conditioner for the past few years has been the Kevin Murphy Blonde Angel. This is a purple shampoo and conditioner, so it helps maintain my bright blonde color as well, but I only use it every other wash so I don’t dehydrate my hair! Recently I have also been using the Moroccan Oil Hydrating Shampoo for an extra boost of moisture!!

Heat Protectant

If you’re looking to grow healthy hair, I think it is super important to use very minimal heat on your hair. Whether you let your it air-dry, do heatless styles a few days a week or even turn down the temperature on your styling tools, trying to minimize that heat exposure for your hair is key. I do my best to not apply too much heat to my hair, but when I am using heat I ALWAYS am sure to prep my hair with a good heat protectant. My favorite is the Oribe Gold Lust Hair Oil which also acts as a heat protectant, but there are so many good options out there! I have linked a few different ones I have used and enjoyed over the years!

Supplements

This is something I don’t have a tonnnn of experience with, but I know if you find the right supplement it can help tremendously with hair growth. The only hair supplement I have taken is the 1st Phorm Hair Skin & Nails, and I literally had to stop taking it for a bit because my nails and eyebrows were growing TOO fast lollll. If you’re looking for an extra boost to your hair care routine I would definitely recommend this!!

Styling

Okay now on to styling!! This part is not as much about hair care, but is a topic around hair that I get alotttt of questions about so figured I would include it in this post!

The most common way you will see me style my hair is just curling it with my Bio Ionic curling iron! I got the long barrel version which is KEY if you have super long hair. Below you can watch my tutorial on how I curl my hair. I will say it can be tricky to nail at the beginning, but once you get used to the placement and directions of the curl it becomes easier and easier! I also like to use velcro rollers to hold the curls and get more of that blow-out look!

Another way I have been loving styling my hair the past couple years is using a crimper. I just use the Bed Head crimper and take about a 2in strip of hair and crimp it from the very base of my hair all the way down to the ends. I love the beachy wave look that you get using this tool.

The last hair style I do pretty commonly is a good ol slicked back bun. This is my go-to style when my hair is dirty or I just don’t feel like puting in the effort. It is a super quick style but still looks cute and put together. I always use my silk slip hair ties when doing an updo to prevent breakage.

And that covers all things hair!! I know there are so many other things you can do to grow healthy hair (silk pillow case, hair masks, etc.), but these are the main things that are a part of my own personal hair care and have worked for me. I hope this gives you all an idea of where to start with your own hair care journey and that you are able to see results by implementing these tips!

I love you all! Thank you for being here.

XOXO, TAY
